Düsseldorf Blackcaps vs Köln A

Opener Tarun Rawat hit a scintillating 110 as Düsseldorf Blackcaps won the NRW league championship.

The two best sides in this year’s NRW league strained every tendon to win the league championship but Düsseldorf Blackcaps came out winners by putting up a professional performance. The disciplined all-round show helped them to take a sweet revenge against the last year champions Köln A in what was the decider played at JHQ.

Düsseldorf Blackcaps rose to the big occasion, they were aggressive through out and played with great passion.

Köln A won the toss and elected to field first. All eyes were on Blackcaps openers Asif and Tarun. Unfortunately skipper Asif (9) got out to a leg side catch. Blackcaps lost Prajakt (6) shortly. Deepak joined Tarun and they put on 66 runs for the 3rd wicket. Deepak played a cameo and scored 30 runs that included 6 boundaries. The inform batsman Ben was the next man in. Ben and Tarun added 32 runs for the 4th wicket and this partnership was looking good when Ben (17) was unlucky to inside edge an attempted drive onto the stumps. Tarun was joined by Suresh at 127 for 4 and they had an important role to play to first maintain a good run rate and then attempt to build it. Suresh proved just as adept at giving Tarun the strike, this pair put on 79 runs for the 5th wicket. Suresh got out for 43 runs. Following this dismissal, Blackcaps lost few quick wickets Vishnu (5), Bhargav (18), Majeed (0) and Mir (8) going for quick runs, Bipin (4) remained unbeaten.

Köln A did not bowl that badly; nor were they sloppy in the field. But Tarun was simply irresistible. He was a picture of confidence. He was awesome in stroke selection and supreme in his timing. He played an outstanding innings. The way he built his innings and the maturity he showed was commendable. His running between the wickets was perfect. Finally he got out (110 with 14 boundaries) to a tired shot. All in all this was one of the best innings by a lad to be remembered for a long time.

Düsseldorf Blackcaps managed to score 273.

Düsseldorf Blackcaps knew they couldn’t be complacent because on this ground they had to bowl tight otherwise the ball would just race away to the boundary with such a fast out field.  Düsseldorf Blackcaps bowlers did exactly that. Bipin and Majeed started of superbly. They were fast and accurate. Bipin as always got the first break through. The opener Indrajit was clueless and bowled. Bipin followed this with 2 more wickets in his opening spell. Majeed at the other end was rewarded for his excellent bowling when he bowled the other opener. Köln A were tottering at 4 down at this stage. Rishi and Satya put up a brave fight back for them. Rishi scored 77 runs and was looking good when Tarun got him out caught in the deep. Satya (49) followed him soon. The rest of the Köln A batsmen flailed away earnestly. Finally Köln A were all out for 203 runs. Bipin took 3 wickets, Asif  & Tarun 2 each and Majeed & Vishnu 1 each. Düsseldorf Blackcaps won the match by 70 runs.

Düsseldorf Blackcaps were far and away the best side in this year’s NRW league. Their success is no accident. After winning the league, Asif Düsseldorf Blackcaps captain said there was no reason why Düsseldorf Blackcaps couldn't win the DCB championship.
