Super Series 2017 - A round up

Western Eagles, the state team from NRW won the DCB Super Series 50 over championship and ended up as runners in the T20 championship. The Western Eagles have won a title for the 3rd year in a row now.  Venkat, Nilay, Majeed and Rafi from our club were part of the Western Eagles squad in 2017 and contributed significantly to the success of the squad.

The Super Series is the premier tournament of the DCB where the best players from 6 regional sides compete against each other.  In 2017, the Super Series saw the introduction of the 50 over format as well as a preparation for the National teams assignments in 2017.  Each team played two T20's against each other and one 50 over game against each other and the top 2 teams in both the formats played the finals.

The finals in both formats took place at Berlin between the Eastern Bears and the Western Eagles, the two most successful super series teams since its inception in 2015. The 50 over format was won by Western Eagles fair and square as they put up 175 on a sluggish outfield and demolished Eastern Bears for only 95 runs to win by a margin of 80 runs. In the T20 format, the tables were turned where Eastern Bears batting first scored 128 from 20 overs only for the Western Eagles to fall short by 20 runs.  A special recognition to Venkat, our BL captain who ended up as the Most Valuable player in the 50 over format on the CricHQ leaderboards after the league phase.

The tournament was played across the country and it saw new talents emerge across the country giving positive hopes for German Cricket in the future.  Also, the event was covered exclusively by German Cricket TV which enabled German Cricket to be showcased across the world on social media platforms.
